sound in the arts.

One of the KIAS-sponsored interdisciplinary course seminars, led by Scott Smallwood from the Department of Music, is coming to a close for the term. The course focused on the role of sound as its own medium in art, as well as the emergence of sound art as a new addition to the worlds of music, film, architecture, dance, and visual art in the last sixty years. The course was a research-intensive one (as all the KIAS courses are) and was interdisciplinary in its nature.

I stopped by to take some pictures of the class and to listen in on the interesting discussions taking place. Dr. Smallwood led a thought-provoking group of students and has definitely introduced a new area of interest to students at the U of A.
