Ayondela McDole graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 from Columbia College Chicago majoring in Cultural Studies with a high concentration in Black World Studies. Ayondela attended the “Tomorrow’s Ideas, Now” conference in August 2012, where she presented an essay deconstructing the popularity of the Black American movies Big Momma’s House, Madea’s Family Reunion and Norbit. In honoring the spirit of the  conference, Ayondela will discuss the necessity of change in the world and the detrimental implications when there is none! She will also illustrate in her talk the importance of using our gifts and talents to better serve our local communities and influence society at large.  It is her belief that sharing ideas and collaborating with fellow students is a wonderful catalyst for change and can be best used for interacting with the world today and tomorrow. Ayondela is an engaging and inspirational speaker and we are so glad to have her with us again this year!

LianneLefsrud photoLianne Lefsrud is a KIAS Doctoral Scholar in Organizational Analysis in the Alberta School of Business. Her research is looking at the oil/tar sands at the intersection of institutional theory, social movements, and professions. Specifically, she is interested in the role of language and rhetoric to define, value, and shape our conceptions of the environment and regulatory institutions related to the oil/tar sands. Prior to starting her PhD, she worked in Regulatory Affairs with APEGGA (Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta), Canadian National Railways, and in environmental consulting, water resource engineering, construction, and oil and gas. Lianne joins us fresh from presenting at TEDx Ft. McMurray!
